Role Overview

Manufacturing Engineer II responsible for developing, optimizing, and improving CNC machining 
processes within a high-volume production environment. This role focuses on improving efficiency, quality, cost reduction, and workflow optimization across CNC milling and turning operations.

Supports CNC programming, tooling development, setup optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across the machining department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and select tooling, fixtures, and gauges for CNC milling and lathe operations
  • Program, set up, and support CNC machines using CAD/CAM or shop-floor programming
  • Develop setup sheets, work instructions, and machining procedures
  • Improve cycle times, setup times, and overall machining efficiency
  • Analyze workflows and recommend layout and process improvements
  • Support CNC machine troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, and optimization
  • Estimate cycle times and assist in quoting new jobs
  • Train and mentor machinists and machine operators
  • Modify CNC programs and setups to improve quality and reduce scrap
  • Ensure optimal machine performance and utilization
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve manufacturability
  • Support inspection planning and quality control processes
  • Drive 5S, safety, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in equipment selection and process improvement projects
  • Maintain SOPs, documentation, and production performance metrics 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent manufacturing experience
  • 5–10 years of CNC machining experience in a production machine shop environment
  • Strong experience with CNC mills and lathes
  • CAD/CAM programming experience and/or shop-floor programming adjustments
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and setup reduction techniques
  • Knowledge of GD&T, SPC, and quality inspection methods
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement practices
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and estimate cycle times
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software tools
  • Leadership or mentoring experience required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
