Mechanical Test Equipment Engineer

$70 - $110 p/h

ACE Partners are working exclusively with one of our partners operating in the Aerospace sector to source a Mechanical Test Equipment Engineer to work on their rotorcrafts. The Mechanical Test Equipment Engineer will be a critical par of their production of the R88 Helicopter and will be highly involved in the design and development of the Test Equipment of the hydraulic systems. 

This is a 12-month contract position and will be 40 hours a week minimum onsite in Torrance, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate and verify mechanical systems and supporting test equopment throughout the product development cycle.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of loads, stress, and component interfaces to inform design decisions.
  • Create detailed part, assembly, and installation definitions using CAD software, with an emphasis on design for manufacturability.
  • Participate directly in prototype development including mechanical assembly, integration of fluid-power components, and iterative build/test activities.
  • Develop requirements, specifications, schematics, and processes for custom mechanical assemblies and test infrastructure.
  • Create maintenance plans, operating procedures, and long-term support documentation for custom equipment and assemblies.
  • Document design intent, analysis build steps, test configurations, and lessons learned to ensure repeatability and traceability.
  • Support instrumentation and data-acquisition activities, including selection of sensors (pressure, flow, displacement), basic calibration tasks, and integration with DAQ systems (LabVIEW, Python, or similar).
  • Interface with engineering teams to understand operating environments, ensure compatibility with system-level requirements, and resolve issues found during development and verification testing.
  • Work with suppliers to identify design solutions, define component requirements, and ensure delivered hardware meetings engineering intent.
  • communicate project status, risks, and schedule impacts to stakeholders.
  • Develop processes and tools to improve quality, repeatability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical and test-system development. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or relating engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Direct experience designing mechanical assemblies and taking designs from concept to hardware.
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawings.
  • Proven hands-on capability with mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and integration.
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering schematics, including mechanical and fluid-circuit diagrams.
  • Experience documenting engineering work, creating procedures, or defining maintenance/support plans.
  • Demonstrated self-started with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience with test equipment development, integration, or mechanical test stands (fluid-power, electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or similar).
  • Familiarity with pressure/flow measurement, transducers, instrumentation, or DAQ integration (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, or similar).
  • Experience designing frames, fixtures, and support hardware for prototype or production environments.
  • Background in aerospace, automotive, industrial machinery, or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience supporting both R&D and production-level engineering activities.
  • Exposure to hydraulic systems, components, or fluid-power design principles.
  • Understanding of mechanical system fundamentals including loads, structural design, fluid-power basics, and design for manufacturability.

Rates

  • W2 - $70/hr - $100/hr (Benefits, 401K & Per Diem* included)
  • 1099/C2C - $80/hr - $110/hr (Benefits, 401K & Per Diem NOT included)

*One would be entitled to per diem if they travel OR relocate over 50 miles to take the role
