Position Overview

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining the industrial ammonia refrigeration system and site utilities within a modern turkey processing facility. Flexibility required for overtime, weekends, holidays, and shift adjustments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, test, and document ammonia refrigeration and plant utility systems, including air compressors and boilers.
  • Install, start up, troubleshoot, and repair industrial refrigeration and related utility equipment.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and Process Safety Management (PSM) program tasks, ensuring accurate logs and documentation.
  • Coordinate and support maintenance activities for refrigeration and utility systems.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations while promoting a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members on repairs and share technical knowledge across the department.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. 

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems and applicable regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator and team-oriented professional.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with refrigeration systems or related industrial equipment.
  • Ammonia/Industrial Refrigeration certification and experience required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Formal refrigeration training or certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 40lbs. regularly and up to 50lbs. occasionally.
  • Capable of standing, squatting, climbing, and working at heights for up to 12-hour shifts.
  • Comfortable working in hot, cold, and wet environments (35°F to 100°F).
  • Ability to safely work with low- and high-voltage equipment.
  • English proficiency (written and verbal).
