We are supporting a well-established FAA Part 27 rotorcraft OEM with a requirement for a Technical Writer to join their Technical Publications team. This position is responsible for authoring, editing, and publishing highly technical aviation documentation, including pilot and maintenance publications. The Technical Publications function serves as a primary technical interface with aircraft owners, operators, and maintenance personnel worldwide, ensuring continued airworthiness and operational safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and revise technical publications based on engineering releases, blueprints, process specifications, and approved service documentation.
  • Interpret vendor/OEM drawings, STCs, and installation or maintenance manuals as applicable.
  • Author and maintain safety alerts, safety notices, service letters, service bulletins, pilot operating handbooks, maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, and kit instructions.
  • Prepare Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 27 Appendix A and applicable FAA guidance (including Order 8110.54A).
  • Review technical publications for clarity, accuracy, standardization, and correct treatment of legacy configurations.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Technical Support, and Production teams to validate technical accuracy.
  • Physically observe maintenance procedures to verify sequencing and accuracy of written instructions.
  • Track project status and documentation updates using Jira and associated tools.
  • Recommend process and tooling improvements to enhance efficiency and documentation quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong technical writing capability.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of aircraft systems.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, and CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, TurboCAD).
  • Self-directed with strong organization, project management, and risk awareness skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Experience

  • FAA A&P certification.
  • 3+ years of experience developing aviation technical publications (maintenance manuals, flight manuals, or equivalent regulated technical data).
